(Object) Normal size ovary cancer syndrome is unusual entity of gynecologic malignancy. Some cases of this disease are diagnosed malignant mesothelioma, however, the histogenesis of this cathegory is still uncertain. (Materials and methos) Ascitis and pleural effusion from a 62-year-old peritoneal malignant mesothelioma patient were offered to culture with DMEM with 10%FBS in 5% bicarbonate gas incubator. Five cases of normal size ovary cancer syndrome were analysed with clinical records, and immunohistochemical property and the expression of p53 . Two of 5 cases and this cell line were examined point mutation of p53 on exon 5-8 by PCR-SSCP.
(Results) A novel cell line is maintained more than 15 months and designed KOC-9c. This cell line was heterotransplantabe by subcutaneous and intra-abdominal injection. This cell line had a chromosomal abnormality of human hypertriploid and a point mutaion on exon 8 of p53. The immunohistochemical study showed malignant meshothelioma (vimentin(+), CEA(-), EMA(+)). The most common histological feature was serous adenocarcinoma with psammoma bodies in 4 of 5cases. All of cases were observed expression of p53 immunohistochemi- cally. (Comments) The expression of p53 was very common and important event in normal size ovary cancer syndrome. This novel cell line could provide useful information for the histogenesis of this disease.
